The Pixel 7A consistently impresses with its camera and design. However, if you can, it might be worthwhile to wait and see what the Pixel 8 brings to the table.
In my May review of the Pixel 7A, I praised its stylish design, outstanding camera, and its resemblance to the pricier Pixel 7. Reviewing the phone again three months later has only reaffirmed these points, while also shedding light on its strengths and weaknesses.
Years after their debut, Google maintains a strong record of updating the software on its Pixel phones, ensuring they remain contemporary. The Pixel 7A should be no different. But with the probable unveiling of the Pixel 8 lineup in a few months, the pivotal question arises: should one invest in the Pixel 7A now or hold out for the Pixel 8?
While we are yet uncertain about what to expect from Google's next smartphone, the answer largely hinges on the Pixel 8's price point and if it introduces any groundbreaking features. In the lead-up to its October launch of the new Pixel range, Google might offer significant discounts on the Pixel 7 series, possibly making them a more attractive purchase than the 7A.
Generally, I recommend customers hold off on purchasing until after Google releases its next major product. However, if you're in immediate need of a new Android phone and have the Pixel 7A in mind, rest assured that you'll be receiving a top-notch camera and user-friendly software features in a perfectly sized package: neither too small nor too large.
